Texas Tech basketball: How the Red Raiders took apart Iowa State
Tech held ISU to 28.6% from 3-point range
Speaking of the 3-point arc, Tech put the clamps on the Cyclones Saturday. Allowing ISU to make just 4-14 attempts, Tech was able to keep the home team from making any sort of run thus keeping the crowd out of the equation all day.
For the year, the Cyclones have averaged 7.3 makes from deep per game. That’s good for 5th in the Big 12.
The key for Tech Saturday was the fact that they held Prentiss Nixon to just 1-6 for the game. Though he’s been just a 25% shooter from 3-point range this year, he’s been shooting better since rejoining the starting lineup after Tyrese Haliburton was lost for the year.
Against Kansas on Monday he was 4-8 on his way to 20 points and had he been able to continue that type of shooting pace, he would have given his team a much-needed lift on Saturday. Instead, he was one of four Cyclones to attempt more than one 3-pointer on the day and only Rasir Bolton made more than one (he was 2-3).
In the last three games, Tech has given up just four 3-pointers each to Iowa State, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State. During that time, Tech’s opponents are shooting just 29.2% (12-41) from distance and if Tech can continue to guard the 3-point line that well, it will bode well for the rest of the season.
