Texas Tech basketball: Kyler Edwards’ best games of 2019-20
22 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists vs. Iowa State
Sometimes there are players that feel as if they’ve been haunting your team for at least 10 years. Iowa State fans may start to feel that way about Edwards after this season. Not only did he put it on the Cyclones in Ames, but he also torched them when they came to Lubbock in January.
In the 72-52 Red Raider win, Edwards had a game-high 22 points in addition to 4 rebounds and 2 assists. It was one of three 20-point games he had on the season and his second-straight.
That game was his best shooting night of the season from 3-point range. Going 5 of 6 from behind the arc, all but one of his six made baskets were triples. It was also his season-high for made 3s in a game.
Making this showing even more impressive was the fact that Edwards got to the line six times (making five). As we already discussed, he didn’t always do a great job of drawing fouls but he showed in this game that he can do damage a point at a time. In fact, this was his third-most free-throw attempts in a game in 2019-20 and the most he had against a team from a major conference.
Also, keep in mind that on the court for Iowa State that night was guard Tyrese Halliburton, a sure-fire NBA Lottery pick this summer. If the Cyclones had any shot of pulling the upset that night, their star was going to have to have a huge game.
However, he was held to just 13 points on 5-12 shooting. Instead, it was Edwards who had the big game as he outscored one of the best players in the country by nine points thus giving his team a huge edge.
