Texas Tech basketball: Kyler Edwards’ best games of 2019-20
24 points, 2 rebounds @ Kansas State
The best game of Edward’s career thus far came this year in Manhattan, Kansas. With 24 points in Tech’s 77-63 win, Edwards put his team on his back and carried it to a victory in an arena that has long been hell for the Red Raiders.

For most of his time at Tech, Edwards has been a complimentary piece. Even as a starter this year, he rarely had the game rest on his shoulders.
But against the Wildcats, Beard found something that worked and he went to it over and over again. Repeatedly putting Edwards in pick-and-roll sets with Holyfield, Beard told his sophomore guard to take over in the second half and that’s what he did.
Making this performance all the more impressive was that, unlike the Kentucky game, Edwards was effective in both halves. After scoring 13 in the first 20 minutes, he added 11 after the break and most of those points were rather timely.
He hit a 3-pointer at the 10:33 mark to put Tech ahead 55-48. Coming right after an old-fashioned 3-point play by Kevin McCullar, that bucket helped the Red Raiders regain some breathing room after the Wildcats had cut the deficit to just one point.
Just over a minute later, he connected on a layup to push Tech’s lead to nine points. He would also hit a jumper two possessions later to push that lead to 61-50, essentially delivering the knockout blow.
Perhaps we don’t fully understand yet how much Edwards grew in terms of the intangibles in his sophomore year. Though his stats were essentially the same as last year on a per 40-minute basis, he saw his role on the team take on quite a bit more significance and that should make him a more confident and outspoken player moving forward. Thus, his best basketball is likely yet to come.
