No. 2: Red and black ombre 2014

As if the road ombre look wasn’t bad enough, Tech tried it again later in 2014 at home against Oklahoma.  It looked even worse with the scarlet and black.

The uniforms looked like they had been washed improperly so that the color had faded.  And though the red was back in full force, it’s use on the helmets and the top of the jerseys made it all that much easier to see just how awful this look was.

But for at least a half, Tech looked like they might make winners out of these ombre threads.  Mahomes helped Tech get out to a 21-7 lead early in the third quarter with his third of four TD passes of the day.

However, that would be the last TD Tech would muster until the final drive of the game in a 42-30 loss.  Turning to their ground game, the Sooners scored 35 points after the break and finished with 384 yards rushing.

That afternoon, the undersized and beleaguered Red Raider defense had no answer for massive OU running back Samaje Perine.  The 235-pounder had 213 yards and 3 TDs on the day.

With almost every carry, Perine pounded the Red Raider defense into submission that day.  Thus, the red ombre look came to symbolize streaking blood from a defense that was bludgeoned to death by blunt force trauma.
