Texas Tech football: The 10 best seasons by a RB in “Air Raid” era
No. 9: Henderson 2004
If there is any question in your mind that Taurean Henderson was the best RB of the last two decades, consider that all four of his seasons wind up on this list. The first of them to make the cut is 2004, his junior campaign.
That year, he totaled 1,126 yards and18 TDs. Let it sink in that those numbers were the most modest of his career.
In all, 840 of those yards and 16 of those scores came on the ground. It was the second-best rushing output of his career in Lubbock.
Garnering All-Big 12 honors, the Gatesville native twice galloped for 100 yards in a game. Most notable were the 169 yards he chewed up at Kansas. In a game that the Red Raiders trailed 30-5 at one point, it was Henderson who played the role of savior.
Helping Tech to a 31-30 win, he scored twice. That included the game-winning 70-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Against Baylor, he put up 111 yards and a TD on the ground. It was one of ten games that year that he found the end zone at least once.
In the passing game, he had just one game with fewer than three catches. What’s more, he had four games with seven or more receptions.
