Texas Tech football: Counting down the Red Raiders’ best uniform combos of all-time
No. 6: Black on white on black
If contrast suits your eye, Tech’s black helmets over white jerseys and black pants have to be pleasing. That’s been the most common road uniform that the program has gone to in the last decade and it is one that is simple and crisp.
With this look, the red numbers seem to pop and are easy to see, especially in person. There was a time when Tech wore black jerseys with red numbers and they were tough to read from the stands. In that instance, the red numbers and letters didn’t stand out the way the red numerals do in this uniform combo.
Also, with this look, the red stripe down the middle of the helmet seems a bit brighter. Perhaps it is because there is so little red in the rest of the look. In fact, it is one of the only bright areas that this combo features.
This look almost comes across as a college football tuxedo. It is classy and professional.
That’s important when heading out on the road. Coaches often say that road games are business trips and that’s why some like to require their players to dress professionally when traveling. It doesn’t look more professional than this combo that the Red Raiders often trot out when heading into hostile territory.
