Power Forward: Weill Flemons

Will Flemons is a name that today’s Red Raider fans may not be as familiar with as others.  But the rugged 6-foot-7 forward from tiny Paducah, Texas was as good as any the program has seen on the interior.

Despite playing 1-A hoops in high school, the 225-pounder was a monster from the moment he stepped on the court in Lubbock.  As a freshman in 1989-90, he averaged a double-double with 11.4 points and 10 rebounds per game.

His second double-double season came as a senior in 192-93 when he put up a massive 20.2 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.  That’s how to bookend a career.

The SWC Player of the Year as both a junior and senior, he ranks 11th in Tech history with 1,604 points.  He’s also got the second-highest scoring game by a Red Raider with 47 points against Oral Roberts in 1993.

He was also a beast on the boards.  His career average of 9.7 rebounds per game is good for 6th in program history.  That would be key for this West Texas Red Raider team given the lack of size in the backcourt.

In fact, this team would need Flemons’ physicality quite a bit.  That’s something that he provided in spades during his career.
