The Texas Tech football team will kickoff against Iowa State at 2:30 on October 10th in Ames.

It appears like the 2:30 window is one that Texas Tech football fans had better get used to.  That’s because we’ve now learned that the Red Raiders will have that as their kickoff time for the third-straight week when they face Iowa State on October 10th.  The game will air on ABC.

All-time, Tech is 11-7 against the Cyclones but the Big 12’s northern-most program has taken the last four meetings in the series.

In fact, the last time the Red Raiders managed a win over ISU was in 2015, a 66-31 blowout in Lubbock.  Of course, a year later, the Cyclones returned the favor with a 66-10 drubbing of Pat Mahomes and the Red Raiders in Ames to kick off their current winning streak in the series.

Over those four games, the smallest margin of victory was nine points in 2018.  That’s why many Red Raider fans are rather skeptical about their program’s odds of ending that streak this year.

Of course, the usual ISU home-field advantage at Jack Trice Stadium will be mitigated this year.  That’s at least one reason to believe that the Red Raiders can finally win in Ames for the first time since 2014.

Currently, ISU sits at 1-1 on the season.  In their opener, Matt Campbell’s team fell to The Louisiana Ragin-Cajuns before bouncing back this past weekend to take down TCU in Fort Worth.

We don’t yet know how playing on the road is going to impact the 2020 season.  That’s because Tech is yet to play away from the friendly confines of The Jones.

However, we will have a much greater idea after the next two weeks, which take Tech to Kansas State and Iowa State.  Those are the only two back-to-back road games on this year’s schedule.

Will the lack of a full crowd make life more manageable for the Red Raiders when they invade an opposing team’s territory?  Or, will the hassle that is traveling in the midst of a global pandemic prove to be more impactful than it might appear on the surface?

We will find out over the next two games and also during that time, we will know quite a bit about what type of football team that Matt Wells has on his hands.  Hopefully, what we find out in the next two 2:30 windows is that this is the time when the Red Raiders start to pick up momentum.
