Colin Schooler

When former Arizona linebacker Colin Schooler transferred to Texas Tech, the move was met with considerable hype.  That’s because he entered the year as the second-leading active tackler in the nation.

But thus far, his productivity as a Red Raider has not met expectations.  He’s recorded just 11 tackles in two games, which is significantly below his career pace.

What’s most surprising though is the fact that he’s not yet registered a tackle for loss.  Remember, he came into 2020 with the most tackles for loss in the nation with 46 and the fewest he’s ever had in a season is 11.

Today, Schooler could be integral in the game plan against Iowa State’s star running back Breece Hall.  Leading the Big 12 with 132 yards per game on the ground, the sophomore is who the Cyclone attack has centered around this season.

This needs to be a game in which Schooler makes an impact for the first time as a Red Raider.  He’s been a sideline-to-sideline tackling machine in his career and he has to find a way to get back to being that type of player.

There will be a ton of action today between the tackles when ISU has the ball.  So an impetus will be placed on Tech’s linebacker play and Schooler needs to be a leader in that regard.  This will be his third game in this scheme and it’s time he starts to resemble the player that he’s been for the majority of his career.
