Sneed is Baylor’s top WR target

With 23 receptions for 293 yards, junior R.J. Sneed is Baylor’s leading receiver on the year.  He’s also tied for second on the team with two TD receptions trailing tight end Ben Sims by one.

Averaging 58.6 yards per game, he’s bee responsible for 13.4 yards less per game than Tech’s leading receiver, Erik Ezukanma.  However, he’s coming off of his best game of the year thus far.

Against the Cyclones, the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder hauled in six passes for 93 yards.  That was his most productive game of 2020 by 31 yards.

Coming into this year, many expected junior Tyquan Thorton to emerge as BU’s next big-time WR after he put up 782 yards a year ago.  However, thus far, he’s played in just three games catching eight passes for 67 yards.   It’s unclear if the preseason Biletnikoff Award watchlist member will be able to play this week after he missed last weekend’s game with an unspecified injury.

Should Thorton miss the game, it will mean that Sneed will get plenty of attention from the Red Raiders.  Last year, he had six receptions for 84 yards against Tech in what was his best game of 2019.

So far, the Tech pass defense has been picked on by just about every team in the conference.  However, last week, the Red Raiders surrendered only 77 yards through the air to TCU.  While it seems like a repeat performance of that showing is unlikely, it will be imperative that Tech doesn’t allow the Baylor WRs to have a big day in Lubbock like so many other wide receiving corps have this year.
