February 17th vs. TCU

The TCU basketball team enjoys coming to Lubbock about as much as a cat enjoys a bath.  But don’t look past the Horned Frogs’ visit in the middle of February.

That’s because this game comes between two massive contests that could be top-10 matchups.  On February 13, Tech will head to Waco to face Baylor and on the 20th, Tech has to travel to Lawrence to face the Jayhawks.

In between, the Horned Frogs will make their way to the South Plains.  And this game will go one of two ways.

Hopefully, Tech will continue to humiliate the Frogs in Lubbock.  In the last two editions of this series played in the U.S.A., Tech has won by an average of 32.5 points per game.

But there’s a chance that TCU will consider this their opportunity to pull off a signature win on the season.  And if they catch Tech looking back at the Baylor game or looking forward to the Kansas game, they could pull an upset.

Thankfully, the Frogs will be without guard Desmond Bane, who was one of the nation’s best players last season and who gave Tech all they wanted during his career.  With his eligibility exhausted, the star in Fort Worth is expected to be athletic center Kevin Samuel who has yet to realize his full potential.

For some reason, Texas Tech seems to get up to play the Horned Frogs in Lubbock.  Part of that is because the fan base loves to watch a public sacrificing of the purple team in person.

But this year, Jamie Dixon will bring his team to Lubbock in between two massive road games against teams that open the year in the top 10.  So if Tech doesn’t treat that game with the same intensity, it could set up as a classic trap game.
