Texas Tech basketball: Five bold predictions for the 2020-21 season
Tech will return to the Final Four
If you win the Big 12, you have every right to expect to reach the Final Four. That’s what the Red Raiders will do in 2021.
I believe Tech will be a no. 2 seed in the tournament next year, which would be the highest they’ve ever been seeded. And when that happens, it will also mean that they’ve reached three-straight NCAA Tournaments for the first time in program history.

All biases aside, I don’t see any glaring weaknesses on this roster. Sure, I would like for there to be a Davide Moretti caliber 3-point weapon and I wish this team was a bit taller among players that we expect to be in the regular rotation so that protecting the rim would be a strength as it was in 2019’s run the Minneapolis.
But remember, the NCAA Tournament is almost always about guards and wings and that’s what this team is filled to the brim with. This truly is as close to a positionless team as Beard has constructed thus far and that’s going to pay dividends come March.
With so many options, Beard won’t have to rely on just one or two players. Therefore, it will be much more feasible for Tech to survive the random off night of a key player like Kyler Edwards or Mac McClung, and overcoming poor games from your stars is essential in the single-elimination NCAA Tournament.
The NCAA is close to finalizing plans to hold the entire 2021 tournament in Indianapolis to have a pseudo bubble situation. Who knows what the world will look like then and whether or not fans will be allowed to attend?
Red Raiders across the world certainly hope that we will be able to be there in person because this is a team that is built for a deep run in March. In fact, I fully expect Tech to be at the Final Four for the second time this spring and what’s more, it would not shock me if this was the year Beard closed the deal and cut down the nets. How’s that for some Kool-Aid drinking to open the season?
