Houston’s star Caleb Mills has been dealing with a sprained ankle

While Sasser is currently leading Houston in scoring, their best player is Caleb Mills, a 6-foot-3 guard.  But the sophomore sat out the opener on Wednesday with a sprained ankle and one has to wonder if a second game in just three days will take a toll on him.

Friday, against Boise, Mills debuted with 12 points in 17 minutes of action.  However, he didn’t pull down a rebound or hand out an assist leading one to wonder if he was still a bit slowed.

The redshirt sophomore led Houston in scoring at 13.2 points per game a season ago.  That included a season-high of 27 points against Tulsa.

Named the American Athletic Conference preseason Player of the Year, Mills is who the UH offense may funnel through if he is fully healthy.  Thus, he and Sasser should give the Red Raider defense a great early-season challenge.

Last year, Mills had eight 20 point games.  Included in that group were outbursts against Oklahoma State (23 points), Oregon (21 points), and Memphis (20 points).  Thus, taking on the Red Raiders will be yet another opportunity for him to have a huge game against a marquee opponent.
