Though the Texas Tech football team lost to Oklahoma State on Saturday, the following developments were positives that the program might be able to build upon.

The Texas Tech football team certainly has to be close to earning its master’s degree in moral victories.  And Matt Wells program earned another three credits towards that pursuit on Saturday in Stillwater thanks to a 50-44 loss to Oklahoma State.

It was the sixth one-score loss of the Wells era, which, of course, dates back to just last season.  That’s yet another reason why fans are growing increasingly frustrated with the current direction of the program.

This is the second year of the Wells era and it was supposed to be one in which the team was more confident and comfortable playing in their current schemes on both sides of the ball which, in theory, should have led to more success in close games.

But that hasn’t been the case.  Rather, many of the same issues have cropped up this year.  Turnovers, inconsistent offensive performances, the inability to come up with timely defensive stops, and clownish coaching decisions have been the constant in close games for the Red Raiders and all of those issues were present in Saturday’s loss in Stillwater.

However, after the game, Wells seemed to focus on the way his team fought yesterday, rather than why he suffered another close loss.

"“The biggest thing is that we are playing through [the mistakes],” he said in his postgame remarks. “Bad things happen. A sign of a team not playing through it is a team that doesn’t play hard. I don’t think anybody saw that. When things happened, either good or bad, I think you saw us rally together. Whether it was offense in the late-third quarter or defense with the turnovers after that, that’s how I would evaluate it. I would look at our guys, their reaction and the play that happened afterward.”"

But the fight wasn’t enough to come up with a win.  Still, there were some positive developments on Saturday; developments that might be something Tech could build upon for the future.  So let’s look at the positives that we can take away from the latest Red Raider defeat.
