Monday, the Texas Tech football program offered Flower Mound QB Nick Evers, but so too did a hated Big 12 rival.
Though it is only March, it is never too early to start thinking about the 2022 Texas Tech football signing class. And one key name for Red Raider fans to know is QB Nick Evers, who picked up an offer from the Red Raiders on Monday.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder is a 3-star prospect who is rated by 247Sports as the 15 pro-style QB in the class of 2022. Overall, he’s listed as the No. 56 player in Texas.
Last season, Evers completed 202-of-299 passes for 2,591 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also carried the ball 92 times for 246 yards and four scores.

The Flower Mound, Texas product is quickly putting together an impressive offer list. Including Tech, he’s got offers from Florida, Louisville, Penn State, Colorado, Cincinnati, Houston, Iowa, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, and SMU among others. But perhaps the school Tech should be most concerned with in this recruiting battle is another Big 12 rival that also extended an offer on Monday.
The TCU Horned Frogs are considered one of the leaders in this recruitment given their proximity to Evers’ hometown. They and Tech are the only Texas schools to have extended offers to the fast-rising prospect and each hopes to have virtual visits with him soon being as official in-person school visits have been outlawed through at least the end of May.

Of course, if Evers decides to become a Red Raider, he will join a suddenly crowded QB room. Tech recently picked up a commitment from Oregon QB Tyler Shough, who still has three years of eligibility remaining and who is the odds-on favorite to be this season’s starter.
What’s more, in the 2021 class, Tech signed 4-star prospect Behren Morton, the highest-rated Red Raider QB signee since Graham Harrell. And already on campus are junior Henry Colombi, and freshmen Donovan Smith and Maverick McIvor. Thus, one has to wonder if such strong competition for playing time might dissuade Evers from coming to Lubbock.
Tech currently has no commitments in the 2022 recruiting cycle. But that could change soon if Evers, who has said he wants to commit sometime this spring, decides he wants to be a Red Raider.
So keep an eye on this prospect. That’s because Evers could get the Red Raiders off to a nice start in the current recruiting cycle. But if he doesn’t pick the good guys, there’s a great chance that he could wind up at one of Tech’s most hated rivals.
