No. 4: Nov. 29, 2014 – Baylor Bears vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Baylor entered this clash with a 9-1 record and had to beat Texas Tech to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive, but Patrick Mahomes and the Red Raiders were looking to play spoiler. It initially looked like the Bears were going to cruise to an easy victory, but Texas Tech staged a furious rally to give Baylor a run for its money.

After falling into a 45-20 hole late in the third quarter, the Red Raiders scored touchdowns on each of their final four possessions. With 1:42 left in the fourth quarter, Mahomes launched a 40-yard touchdown pass to Bradley Marquez, which cut Baylor’s lead to 48-46. Unfortunately, Mahomes, who completed 30 of 56 passes for 598 yards and six touchdowns, was sacked on the ensuing two-point conversion attempt and the Bears escaped with a narrow win over Texas Tech.

No. 3: Nov. 26, 2015 – Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Texas Longhorns

Patrick Mahomes’ stats weren’t gaudy by his standards, but he did enough to guide Texas Tech to an elusive road win over Texas. Heading into this contest, the Red Raiders hadn’t beaten the Longhorns in Austin since 1997. Needless to say, winning this game was a big deal for Texas Tech.

Playing in weather conditions that were far from ideal, Mahomes completed 22 of 39 passes for 372 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 70 yards and a score on 16 carries. With the thrilling 48-45 victory over Texas, the Red Raiders capped the 2015 regular season with a 7-5 record and dashed the Longhorns’ bowl hopes in the process.
