Texas Tech fans may have to pull up the battle for Carolina on a second screen

For two hours before Tech and Wyoming kick-off, Texas Tech fans might want to check out the battle for Carolina bragging rights as South Carolina and North Carolina face off near the border in Charlotte.  While this game doesn’t feature a Big 12 team or anything that will impact the Red Raiders, it should be one of the most competitive games of the weekend.

The Tar Heels check in at No. 21 in the polls and feature QB Drake Maye, one of the top NFL Draft prospects in the nation.  Meanwhile, the enigmatic Spencer Rattler leads the Gamecocks offense, a player who used to be the hottest name in NFL circles before flaming out at Oklahoma.

South Carolina is a program on the rise under Shane Beamer having increased its win total in each of the past two years.  Now, the challenge will be for the Gamecocks to try to make serious noise in the rugged SEC East.

The Gamecocks will be tested on defense.  Maye led the nation in total offense last year and he might be licking his chops to face an SC defense that lost seven starters from a 2022 defense that was one of the worst in the country.

However, the UNC defense was nothing to write home about last fall either.  Giving up 30.8 points per game, they were the weak link for Mack Brown in a disappointing season.

This game has all the makings of a shootout and that is what college football fans love.  So pull up your laptop or phone to stream the end of this game while Tech and Wyoming lock horns in the first half because this is a game that could be one everyone is talking about on Sunday.
