Texas Tech football: How to watch Red Raiders vs. Wyoming

Today, the Texas Tech football team will open the 2023 season in Laramie, Wyoming.  It will be just the sixth all-time meeting between these programs and the first since 1992.

Surprisingly, Wyoming holds a 3-2 edge over the Red Raiders.  Now, it must be stated that two of the Cowboys’ wins over Tech came over 50 years ago.

This will also be only the second time Tech has ever played at Wyoming.  The other was in 1991 when the Red Raiders were upset 22-17.

Texas Tech Television and Radio Broadcast Information

Tonight’s game can be seen on CBS at 6:30 PM Central.  Play-by-play duties will be handled by Rich Waltz with Aaron Taylor serving as the analyst and Amanda Guerra reporting from the sidelines.

The radio call will be broadcast on the Texas Tech Sports Network by Learfield.  Brian Jensen will have the play-by-play call with John Harris as the analyst and Chris Level on the sidelines.  The game can be heard on DoubleT 97.3 in Lubbock or on SiriusXM channels 109 or 203.  The call can also be streamed on the Varsity Network Mobile App.

Betting Odds and Lines for Texas Tech vs. Wyoming

FanDuel has the Red Raiders as a 14-point favorite. The money line is Tech -630 and Wyoming +450.  The over/under sits at 50.5.

Game Notes: Texas Tech vs. Wyoming

  • Tyler Shough will become only the fifth Red Raider to start at quarterback in three-consecutive season openers since 1980, joining a list that also features Kliff Kingsbury and Graham Harrell.
  • The Cowboys were also one of Texas Tech’s first bowl opponents in its history as the two schools previously met in the 1956 Sun Bowl. That was the eighth of now 40 bowl appearances in school history for the Red Raiders, who fell to the Cowboys 21-14 in El Paso.
  • Texas Tech is 48-11-2 all-time against current members of the Mountain West Conference,
  • It will be the first contest versus a Mountain West school not named New Mexico since the Red Raiders rallied to edge Nevada, 35-34, on Sept. 24, 2011.
  • This will be the first time Texas Tech has opened its season against a Mountain West opponent since the Red Raiders topped New Mexico, 42-30, to start the 2001 campaign.
  • Texas Tech is 68-27-3 all-time over its 98 season openers after opening 19 of the past 20 years with a victory.
  • This marks the first time Texas Tech has kicked off the season at an opponent’s home stadium since a 2013 victory at SMU.
