Which newcomers will be difference-makers for Texas Tech?

Finally, we do have to turn our attention to all the newcomers.  That’s because some of them must prove to be more than role players and make a true difference this year.

Right now, it would be fair to say that the transfers Tech has added were solid players at their previous stops but not stars.  At least one or two of them will have to become more than role players for McCasland if this team is going to be able to make noise in the Big 12.

It seems as if the Arizona State duo of Washington and Cambridge might be the best bets to really shine.  Washington could be the closest thing this program has had to Tariq Owens and Cambridge is an elite defensive player who can do a little bit of everything on offense as a big wing as he averaged 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds last season.

Toussaint also might step forward in his final year of college basketball.  He’s been through the Big 12 wars at West Virginia and the New York City guard is as tough-minded as they come.  Last year, he averaged just under 10 points per game as a reserve in Morgantown but that number could rise if he earns a bigger role for Tech.

One wildcard could be Georgia transfer KyeRon Lindsay.  The 6-foot-8 athlete played only a handful of games for the Bulldogs last year before coming to Tech in January to redshirt.

Now, he will get a shot to prove that the strong start to his college career can continue.  He put up 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds at Georgia and if he makes strides as a sophomore, he could be a welcome addition for the Red Raiders.

We are now less than two weeks away from the start of the Texas Tech basketball season and the excitement is growing, especially given the struggles of Joey McGuire’s football program.  As the season gets underway on November 8th, keep these questions in mind because they must be answered sufficiently for this campaign to be what we all hope it can be.
