Texas Tech basketball: Red Raiders dominate Michigan in Bahamas
Texas Tech helped its resume this week
When taking a 30,000-foot view of this week, it is hard not to be somewhat satisfied with what took place for the Red Raiders. Going 2-1 is better than the Red Raiders managed to do last year at the Maui Invitational when they went 1-2 and their lone win was over a laughably bad Louisville team.
Sure, beating Villanova on Wednesday would have been a huge boost to the resume but given that the Wildcats hauled off and won the entire event, that loss is easier to stomach. What’s more, the win over Northern Iowa is especially pleasing given that it seemed destined to be a loss until the final five minutes.
Of course, we’ll all be rooting for the Panthers and the Wolverines to have good seasons from here on out. UNI does have the look of a team that can compete for an NCAA bid but Michigan doesn’t appear destined to do great things in the Big 10 unless there is a major improvement in that team this year.
Still, these two wins could be two of the best non-conference wins Tech earns this year. Beating Butler on the road would prove to be the best if the Red Raiders can get that fish in the boat next week but these two wins could pay some dividends come March as well.
Ultimately, what happens in Big 12 play will decide Tech’s fate. However, by going 2-1 in the Bahamas, Tech has two decent resume points to bolster its NCAA Tournament case.
