It’s finally upon us! The offseason is over. Folks, college football is officially back. We get to watch the start of the season and for Big 12 football fans, we’ll get to watch the most chaotic conference around get everything started this year.

That’s because the very first game of the 2025 college football season involves two Big 12 teams. And to make it even more intriguing, those two teams are both ranked in the Top 25 and have also made their way on over to Ireland and will be competing in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.

But that’s not the only Big 12 action of the day. We’ve also got a matchup with a team from California right in the midst of the middle of the country against a longtime Big 12 member.

Let’s go over what Big 12 teams are playing to get the season started.

College football schedule, August 23, 2025: What Big 12 teams are playing today?

The first game of the day (and the 2025 college football season) does indeed involve a couple of ranked Big 12 teams right out of America’s Great Plains and they’ll be competing in Ireland. We’ve got the No. 22 Iowa State Cyclones meeting up with the No. 17 Kansas State Wildcats all the way across the Atlantic Ocean.

The second game of the day that involves a member of the Big 12 happens to be the third game of the season. After Iowa State and Kansas State finish up their business at the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, we’ll get to see the Kansas Jayhawks welcome the Fresno State Bulldogs to town.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • No. 22 Iowa State Cyclones vs. No. 17 Kansas State Wildcats - 11 a.m. CT on ESPN
  • Fresno State Bulldogs vs. Kansas Jayhawks - 5:30 p.m. on FOX

Again, college football is back, folks. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. We made it. The offseason is absolutely, positively done and over. Let’s enjoy it.
