The Ole Miss Rebels and the Tulane Green Wave have already played once this season and it ended up being a 35-point blowout that the Rebels won with such ease. I mean, that matchup probably could have been even uglier if Lane Kiffin wanted it to be.

But Lane Kiffin isn’t the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels any longer. He took the LSU Tigers head coaching gig. And technically, Jon Sumrall isn’t going to be coaching Tulane for much longer because he’s leaving New Orleans to be the head coach of the Florida Gators.

It’s an odd situation for all involved, to be completely honest. But we get a rematch. And maybe it’ll be interesting?

Here’s what Texas Tech fans need to know, from how to watch the game to why this game (at least in theory) is one that Red Raider fans should be interested in.

How to watch Ole Miss vs Tulane in the College Football Playoff

  • Who: Ole Miss (11-1 overall, 7-1 SEC) vs Tulane (11-2 overall, 7-1 American)
  • When: Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 2:30 p.m.
  • Where: Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi
  • TV Channel: TNT (or truTV or HBO Max)

Why should Texas Tech fans care about this College Football Playoff game?

I mean, there is the obvious storyline of “Texas Tech is in the College Football Playoff and these teams are also in the College Football Playoff and theoretically one of these teams could maybe, possibly, in theory end up facing Texas Tech at some point.”

And by some point, I mean the championship game. Because that’s the only time that Texas Tech would end up meeting with someone from that side of the CFP bracket.

But it’s possible!

If Ole Miss were to advance on, Texas Tech would (theoretically) need to account for a potent veer-and-shoot offense that has proven itself in the SEC and is powered by a dual threat quarterback and an incredible running back. The offense itself, in several ways, is built to operate the way that Texas Tech’s own veer-and-shoot offense operates.

Should Tulane make it past Ole Miss, the Red Raiders (theoretically) would want to watch out for a defensive oriented team that thrives at causing headaches on opposing quarterbacks by racking up sacks and interceptions while also taking advantage of a dual threat quarterback who has played in the Big 12 before.
