Folks, for the first time ever, the Texas Tech Red Raiders are headed on to a Super Regional. After sweeping through the 2025 Lubbock Regional, Texas Tech is getting the chance to take on the Florida State Seminoles during the 2025 Tallahassee Super Regional.
It’s a pretty important road trip. I mean, it’s hard to overstate just how big of a deal this is for a Texas Tech softball program that is competing in just its seventh NCAA softball tournament appearance. Tech is playing for a chance to make it to Oklahoma City and the Women’s College World Series.
And the Red Raiders have a pretty decent shot of being able to advance on.
Texas Tech takes historic Super Regional trip to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles
I don’t want to say that Florida State is going to be an easy team to beat, that would certainly be a false statement, but the Red Raiders do have a fair bit of talent, especially in the circle. And that's what will make this Super Regional something truly fun to pay attention to.
While FSU is used to hitting home runs (the Seminoles have 83 on the season while Tech has only hit 57 this year), it’s going to be fun to see how they stack up against a TTU pitching staff that has a combined 1.84 ERA and 381 strikeouts.
And it’s not like FSU’s pitching staff isn’t impressive. They have a 2.23 team ERA and 310 strikeouts to brag about. But it seems like NiJaree Canady (who is setting all sorts of program records while having one of the most dominant seasons in the country) gives the Red Raiders a bit of an advantage here. Her 0.92 ERA and 28-5 win-loss record are just incredible.
When will Texas Tech softball face off against Florida State in the 2025 Super Regional?
The best-of-three game series between the Florida State Seminoles and the Texas Tech Red Raiders obviously has some pretty big consequences. The Red Raiders, in their first super regional ever, will be facing off against a team that has been to Oklahoma City a few times in recent seasons.
And whoever wins (two of three games) here will get the chance to head on to the Women’s College World Series. It’d be a pretty big deal for Tech to keep on rolling.
Here’s what the schedule looks like for the Tallahassee Super Regional (all game times are Central Time):
- Game 1: Thursday, May 22 at 6 p.m.
- Game 2: Friday, May 23 at 2 p.m.
- Game 3 (if necessary): Saturday, May 24 at 6 p.m.
It’ll be fascinating to see how Tech does on the road in Tallahassee. The Red Raiders are just 13-8 in away games this season while the Seminoles are 18-3 at JoAnne Graf Field.
