Elimination! Both the Florida Gators and the Tennessee Lady Vols are facing it as they meet up in Oklahoma City for a fascinating Game 5 matchup of the 2025 Women’s College World Series. Both of these teams likely saw their trips to OKC going differently, but both of these teams are now looking at heading home sooner than they wanted to.
The Gators are in this position after getting shutout by SEC newcomer, the Texas Longhorns, in the first game of the 2025 Women’s College World Series. Meanwhile, the Tennessee Lady Vols choked away a two run lead with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning against the Oklahoma Sooners, another SEC newcomer.
So, we get this classic SEC rivalry matchup on college softball’s biggest stage because two longtime SEC teams decided to lose to former Big 12 teams. Funny how life works sometimes.

Tennessee and Florida are so similar in so many ways. These teams have nearly identical overall records, nearly identical SEC records, and are both prominent programs. And so, this game could be pretty interesting to keep up with.
Interestingly enough, we didn’t get a regular season meeting between these two teams to really get a feeling for how things might pan out in this game. So, we’ll have to wait and see how it all pans out.
