Folks, the 2025 Women’s College World Series is finally here. It’s finally upon us! We get to watch the eight best teams in college softball face off and try to win a national championship. And for Texas Tech fans, that means rooting for the Red Raiders in Oklahoma City for the first time in program history.
But Texas Tech won’t play until later in the day. The Red Raiders will meet up with the Ole Miss Rebels this evening. Before that happens, the University of Texas Longhorns and the University of Florida Gators will get things started in OKC.
Both the Longhorns and Gators (from the SEC) have been remarkable all season long. The Longhorns are riding some interesting momentum after coming back in their Super Regional against the Clemson Tigers and are pretty potent at the plate. This season, they’ve hit a collective 85 home runs and have a .359 batting average.
Florida, meanwhile, has seen a few ups and downs as of late. The Gators lost in the SEC Tournament against the Ole Miss Rebels, but they have bounced back nicely and managed to take their Super Regional from the Georgia Bulldogs by winning games one and three of that series.

It’s going to be fun to see how this game plays out and it’s worth noting that this will likely start to set the tone for what the WCWS will look like. Remember, two losses in this portion of the festivities in Oklahoma City and you’re out.
The winner of this game will advance on to meet up with the winner of the matchup between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Tennessee Lady Vols. Meanwhile, the loser here will face off against the loser between OU and Tennessee.
