Another week, another dominant win for Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Once again we got to see Mack Leftwich’s offense clicking and Shiel Wood’s defense shutting down an opposing team. All in all, it was a fantastic showing from a Texas Tech team that just looks so much better than it did a season ago.

Beating the Oregon State Beavers 45-14 in a game that probably could have been even more one sided is a nice thing to see in a game that was Texas Tech’s most “difficult” test (relatively speaking, that is) to date.

Now, we get to look at some pretty impressive numbers from the Red Raiders’ dominant Week 3 victory. Here’s a few stats that stood out to me from Texas Tech’s lopsided win over Oregon State.

310 - The yardage difference between what Texas Tech gained and what Oregon State had

There was just simply no way that the Oregon State Beavers would be able to keep up with Texas Tech in this game. No way. We got to see a 310 yard difference in what the Red Raider offense gained and what Oregon State had.

I mean, we’re talking about the fact that Oregon State didn’t even break 300 yards of total offense (they had 289) while Texas Tech was just shy of 600 total yards (599). That’s significant. Texas Tech had more than DOUBLE what the Beavers got yardage wise.

That’s good.

38 - The number of points Texas Tech put on the board before Oregon State made it into the end zone

This game wasn’t close at any point other than when it first began at kickoff. And a great way to illustrate it is how Texas Tech scored 38 points and Oregon State scored 0 until late in the fourth quarter. There were 54 minutes and 55 seconds of shutout football for the Red Raiders and Beavers.

Texas Tech has the potential to put on dominant performances on a fairly routine basis. And that’s impressive. Beating up Oregon State to the tune of 38-0 until the waning minutes of this game is something to be proud of.

Yes, the Beavers did end up scoring 14 points late in the game, but that’s not that big of a deal right now. Truly, Texas Tech looked great until it took its foot off the gas. Now, against a team like Utah, we’re going to need to see a full game from the Red Raiders, but that’s a problem for later this week, not right in this exact moment.

13.3 - The number of yards per pass attempt from Behren Morton vs. the Beavers

Texas Tech was stretching the field a bit with its passing attack, and that’s fun to watch. Behren Morton was a thrill to watch as he managed to complete 23 of his 35 pass attempts for 464 yards, four touchdowns, and one pick.

Now, Morton was sacked a couple of times, which isn’t great, but that gives the offensive line a few things to figure out ahead of Big 12 play starting this coming Saturday.

What we did get to watch was Morton lighting up yet another defense with an effective and efficient and explosive performance. He connected with a number of different receivers and managed to stretch the field on seemingly every drive. It was impressive.
