Once again, the Texas Tech Red Raiders secured another blowout win. On senior day, at home in Lubbock for the final time this regular season, the Texas Tech football team managed to go out and absolutely crush the UCF Knights.
This game was more than over well before halftime as it was 38-2 by the time the third quarter rolled around and the Red Raiders decided to just coast to an easy win.
Texas Tech is now 10-1 on the season and 7-1 in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders hold the top spot in the Big 12 standings and clearly look like the best team in the conference, which is such an exciting thing to see unfold.
No. 1: The 294 yards passing from two different Texas Tech quarterbacks against UCF’s defense
Texas Tech used two different quarterbacks against the UCF Knights and it really didn’t matter much. Both Behren Morton and Mitch Griffis managed to step out on the field and thrive against the Knights defense in a pretty impressive way.
Statistically, Morton and Griffis basically had the same sort of outings. Morton completed 14 of 20 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. When he got the chance to rest, Griffis came in and completed 13 of 17 passes for 145 yards.
Combined, the two completed 27 of 37 passes for 294 yards and a score. That’s a solid outing.
No. 2: The defensive pressure Texas Tech got on UCF’s offense via eight tackles for loss
Texas Tech’s defense has routinely been one of the best in the Big 12 (and quietly among some of the best in the country) all throughout this season. Shiel Wood and the Red Raiders should be impressed and proud of how they’ve performed on that side of the ball this year.
And that includes against the UCF Knights, a team that Texas Tech’s defensive front truly dominated. The Red Raiders managed to record four sacks for 16 yards lost and then also got a total of eight tackles for loss in this game.
It’s clear that Texas Tech had a significant advantage at the line of scrimmage in this game.
No. 3: The 269 yards of difference between what Texas Tech’s offense gained and what UCF was able to generate on offense
Folks, Texas Tech managed to effortlessly gain more than double what the UCF Knights had in terms of total offense. The Red Raiders had absolutely no issue accumulating yards left and right while the Knights were really unable to do much on that side of the ball.
We’re talking about a game in which the Red Raiders gained a total of 499 yards of offense while the Knights picked up a total of 230 yards.
To take it one step further, the Red Raiders averaged 6.9 yards per play while the Knights had just 3.7 yards per play. That’s an impressive feat!
Texas Tech will now head into a bye week, which is certainly earned by this group. After that, the Red Raiders will hit the road and go face off against Rich Rod and the West Virginia Mountianeers to closer out the regular season.
