I don’t think Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders softball team could have gotten off to a much better start than what they were able to do through their first six games of the 2026 NCAA softball season. The No. 1 Texas Tech Red Raiders went out and crushed five of their first six foes and then managed to get a win over a ranked team in that ranked team’s hometown.
Not bad!
Texas Tech is 6-0 on the season so far, the Red Raiders have five run rule victories and then a road win over the No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies, and this team looks absolutely loaded with talent all over the place. It’s early, but this season is already exciting for Texas Tech softball fans.
And here’s a few numbers to show that.
The Red Raiders have a dozen home runs to start the 2026 Texas Tech softball season, which is really good
Nobody in the Big 12 is more terrifying than the Texas Tech Red Raiders right now. Nobody is approaching the plate like Texas Tech's softball team. It’s truly impressive. In just six games, Texas Tech has managed to hit 12 home runs.
Which is an exciting way to win games, by the way.
And what makes this truly intriguing is that it’s not just one player that’s responsible for all of these home runs. Mia Williams leads the way with three home runs (more on her in a minute), but Lagi Quiroga and Taylor Pannell each have two home runs while Mihyia Davis, Jasmyn Burns, Hailey Toney, Alana Johnson, and NiJaree Canady each have one home run so far.
Mia Williams has been unstoppable and has already scored a dozen runs for Texas Tech
A huge reason for why Texas Tech is so productive at the plate, Mia Williams just cannot be stopped so far this season. She’s managed to rack up a .688 batting average and has hit three home runs while driving 13 runs home.
On top of that, she’s already scored a dozen runs herself, which is exciting.
Arguably even more impressive than the fact that she’s hit three home runs already is the fact that in six games Williams has hit six doubles. Oh, and Williams has managed to steal three bases on four attempts already.
Williams was such a huge addition for the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech has two pitchers who already have double digit strikeout totals and neither is NiJaree Canady
But Williams wasn’t the only important piece to get added to this Texas Tech softball team. Arguably one of the most important things that the Red Raiders needed to figure out over the offseason was how to add pitching depth.
It’s early, but it seems like NiJaree Canady might not be the only dominant pitcher on this Texas Tech softball team. Kaitlyn Terry has a 0.84 ERA and a 2-0 win-loss record after starting a couple games and appearing in three. She’s managed to strike out 16 batters in just 8.1 innings pitched.
And then there’s Samantha Lincoln, who has a 1.40 ERA and a 2-0 win-loss record to go with two complete games. Lincoln has allowed five hits, but she’s struck out 11 batters in 10.0 innings of work.
NiJaree Canady certainly demonstrated just how dominant she could be a season ago and it’s exciting to see her complimented by a couple of other impressive pitchers who can help elevate the Red Raiders this season.
