Texas Tech’s road trip to Fort Worth wasn’t much fun for folks who love the Red Raiders. Over the weekend, Texas Tech managed to get swept. The Red Raiders are now 4-5 in the Big 12 and trapped in the midst of the conference.
As Texas Tech gets set to face off against the Houston Cougars this weekend, Tim Tadlock’s team gets the chance to try to reset things a little bit this evening. That’s because tonight the Abilene Christian Wildcats will be in town to face off against the Texas Tech baseball team at Rip Griffin Park.
So, as we get closer and closer to that midweek matchup between the Red Raiders and the Wildcats, we get the chance to go over some storylines that we’ll need to pay attention to tonight.
No. 1: Texas Tech gets a reset game before facing the Houston Cougars in a three-game Big 12 series. Let’s not waste it, please.
The Houston Cougars are the worst team in the Big 12 right now. Like the Red Raiders, UH is currently riding a three game losing streak. So, I would very much so appreciate it if Texas Tech could go out and beat them this weekend. But the Red Raiders can’t look ahead to that. They need to focus on getting momentum by facing the Wildcats tonight. Let’s do that, please.
No. 2: Texas Tech is trapped right in the middle of a very packed Big 12 and it’d be great if that wasn’t the case
Man, the Big 12 standings are absolutely bunched right now. Texas Tech holds a 4-5 conference record right now, but the Red Raiders are tied with the likes of the Cincinnati Bearcats, Kansas State Wildcats, and the BYU Cougars. And that’s in a four-way tie for 8th in the conference right now.
No. 3: The Abilene Christian Wildcats might just be a bit more dangerous than most midweek opponents that Texas Tech will face
Look, I’m not saying that the ACU Wildcats are going to be world beaters or the toughest team that Texas Tech has on the schedule this season, but the Wildcats have managed to hit 52 home runs on the season and they’ve been able to beat Texas Tech in the past. And with the way the Red Raiders are reeling right now, Texas Tech can’t afford to overlook this one.
