Once again, we’ve got another lopsided, impressive Texas Tech football win. The Red Raiders managed to absolutely throttle the West Virginia Mountaineers, hitting the road and beating Rich Rodriguez’ team in an explosive, dynamic way.
We’re talking about a 49-0 sort of win that likely could have been even more lopsided.
I’ve got a few thoughts on Texas Tech following the Red Raiders’ win over West Virginia. Let’s go ahead and talk about them.
No. 1: The offense wasn’t balanced by yardage output, but Texas Tech looks really effective and versatile on that side of the ball
With 188 rushing yards and 384 passing yards, it doesn’t exactly look like Mack Leftwich and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are prioritizing putting a “balanced” offense that is split evenly with the sort of yardage output it can provide on a weekly basis.
Instead, the fact is that the Red Raiders look to have a versatile enough offense with playmakers all over the field, which has allowed for Texas Tech to have a lot of fun on that side of the ball. Eight different receivers got involved in catching passes and J’Koby Williams and Cameron Dickey proved that this team can thrive in rushing as well. That’s exciting to see.
No. 2: It really looks like Joey McGuire has built a complete team (with some help)
Shoutout to all of the donors and boosters and folks pumping money into Lubbock to get some of the best available players to help elevate the Texas Tech football program. Because right now, it seems like the Red Raiders have put together a really impressive roster.
Other than a question mark due to injuries at quarterback, Texas Tech has a roster that is full of depth and ready to compete against anyone at any time. And right now, with Behren Morton thriving, it seems like this team is poised to cause headaches for folks in the College Football Playoff.
Add in the hirings that McGuire made to get Mack Leftwich to be TTU’s offensive coordinator and then Shiel Wood to be the Red Raiders’ defensive coordinator and this has been so impressive to keep up with.
No. 3: Texas Tech just wrapped up the regular season in the perfect sort of way
With a lopsided and exciting victory on the road over the West Virginia Mountaineers, it really feels like McGuire and company have sent a message (all while still also likely hitting the brakes a bit on the offensive side of things to slow things down a bit).
And now we’re getting set to see how Texas Tech will perform against the BYU Cougars for a rematch in the Big 12 championship game. TTU has figured a few things out and looks pretty polished. They’re not perfect, but it seems like the Red Raiders are performing well heading into the Big 12 title game (and also hopefully the College Football Playoff).
