Just like in the first two games against the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, Tim Tadlock’s Texas Tech baseball team found a very disappointing way to lose in Game 3 on Sunday against the Horned Frogs. Texas Tech had a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th inning and the Red Raiders gave up three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning.
And of course, they subsequently lost to the Horned Frogs. It was frustrating. Texas Tech fans aren’t thrilled. The game sucked.
So, let’s take a look at some of what happened in it. Because there’s some odd things worth noting. Here’s a few things that stood out from the Game 3 loss against the Horned Frogs.
No. 1: Jackson Burns provided a really solid outing for the Red Raiders on Sunday, which is encouraging
There weren’t many things worth celebrating when examining how the pitching staff did over the weekend, but we really should celebrate Jackson Burns after how he performed on Sunday in Game 3. It’s not ideal that the Red Raiders lost and wasted a really impressive performance from Burns.
Burns was able to provide the Red Raiders with 6 innings of really solid work. He did give up six hits and a couple of earned runs, but Burns also managed to strike out eight batters and positioned the Red Raiders well. It’s just unfortunate that things didn’t work out for the Red Raiders in Game 3 against TCU.
No. 2: Texas Tech’s struggles when playing away from Lubbock might be becoming a worrisome trend
I’m starting to get a little concerned about this one.
Truly, I don’t think this is a good thing. While I don’t think the sample size is large enough yet to truly warrant being overly alarmed, I think we need to keep an eye on this one.
Texas Tech has lost five away games this season (including the three they played in Fort Worth over the weekend) and the Red Raiders are 0-3 when it comes to neutral site games. That’s something to pay attention to. Especially as we talk about Texas Tech facing teams that are .500 or better in conference play down the stretch of the season.
No. 3: Connor Shouse was hit by pitch three times over the weekend, which is just an odd thing to see
Look, I don’t think it’s fun getting hit by a pitch once, let alone three times. And I’m not going to go about ascribing intentions or motives or anything like that. I just don’t think it’s great that Shouse got hit by three different pitches.
Interestingly enough, he happens to lead the Red Raiders when it comes to being hit by pitch as this has happened NINE times so far this season. I can’t imagine that’s much fun.
