3 thoughts after Texas Tech managed to demolish Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Week 1 win

Getting the season started with a 67-7 win should be an annual tradition, if you ask me. I, for one, love seeing the Texas Tech Red Raiders race up and down the field against a team like Arkansas-Pine Bluff and TTU to come away with a lopsided win in the process.

It warms the heart a little bit, you know? Dominant wins are good for the soul. They definitely are better than the frustrating sorts of wins that we’ve seen against FCS teams in season openers in very recent history.

With this win, I’ve got a few thoughts from Texas Tech’s dominant showing over the Golden Lions. Let’s go over them.

Texas Tech has a number of different weapons on offense and that’s exciting

We’re talking about a game in which the Red Raiders had 11 different receivers catch passes. We’re talking about a game in which three different runners were able to make it into the end zone for touchdown runs. We’re talking about a game that had three different quarterbacks succeed (more on that in a bit).

It was awesome to see the way this offense clicked and the way this team managed to effortlessly move up and down the field. It’s probably going to be pretty hard for the Red Raiders to incorporate everyone in a meaningful way on a weekly basis, but maybe that’ll still happen?

It’s absolutely great that Texas Tech can turn to multiple quarterbacks if necessary

I loved seeing three different Texas Tech quarterbacks get on the field against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions. And part of me keeps dwelling on the possibility that it might be necessary to, at some point, use a backup quarterback.

Behren Morton hasn’t always been the healthiest. He’s taken a few hits here and there. And he took a hit to his leg this evening that I wasn’t a huge fan of. I don’t want to see him have to sit out of any games and I don’t want him injured.

I also don’t want Texas Tech to have to navigate a situation where they aren’t prepared properly. Will Hammond played well. And that helped soothe some worries on my part.

It’s so fun to see Texas Tech score so quickly and also I hope that doesn’t wear down the defense later this season

It’s interesting to me that Texas Tech and Arkansas-Pine Bluff had an identical number of plays from their offenses. 59 plays for the Red Raiders. 59 plays for the Golden Lions. One team scored 67 points. One team scored just seven points.

On top of that, the Red Raiders managed to average 10.3 yards per play. Arkansas-Pine Bluff averaged just three yards per play. There was a drastic difference in the way these teams operated and which team was able to thrive on offense in this game. And Texas Tech moved quickly. They scored quickly. And I hope that doesn’t lead to the defense getting worn down later in the season.
