Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are back home in Lubbock and ready to meet up with just about anyone on any schedule to showcase just how much the Red Raiders have improved under Glasco’s leadership.
Texas Tech was a force in so many ways and the Red Raiders scored time and time again. To help better understand just how good Texas Tech was in its 24-0 win over the Abilene Christian Wildcats, let’s explore a few stats that help to explain things here.
Stat 1: NiJaree Canady was ruthless and efficient and also probably ruthlessly efficient
It really didn’t take much of an effort or energy (not that there was a ton to offer with that from all of the travels recently), but NiJaree Canady looked good. Really spot on. Truly solid stuff. It took her just 69 pitches to strike out nine of the 18 batters that she ended up facing.
The Red Raiders really need to continue to promote what this athletics department is doing from a few different things. But still, it’s good to see a team come together so efficiently .
Stat 2: Texas Tech was very patient at the plate and was able to get on base as a result, which is something to brag about
Walking is really good exercise. Generally speaking, it’s great for your body, it helps regulate things going on in your brain. I’m a huge advocate for walking. That includes just going out and walking in general and also when you’re at the plate and someone pitching keeps missing the strike zone.
When you sit back and look at combining what the Red Raiders have to offer, it’s easy to see that there will pretty much always be talented home run hitters and dominant pitchers. Still, there are little things that this group is doing exceptionally well.
Stat 3: The number of extra base hits that Texas Tech was able to rack up in this game
I’m really impressed with the way that the Texas Tech softball team just goes about its business and then punishes folks on a very regular basis. When playing against the likes of the Abilene Christian Wildcats, Texas Tech managed to hit four doubles, two triples, and three home runs.
Assuming my finger counting is correct, that puts Texas Tech with nine extra base hits on the day. And that helps demonstrate just how good Texas Tech is and will be playing to.
