As Joey McGuire gets set to take his Texas Tech Red Raider football team on the road to Houston to face off against the Houston Cougars in a matchup between two unbeaten, 4-0 Big 12 teams, it looks like the Red Raiders are continuing to get more and more good news about starting quarterback Behren Morton following his injury.
The Red Raiders had to sideline Morton during the Texas Tech road trip up to Salt Lake City as the starting quarterback took a few hard hits from the Utah Utes defense.
However, following a solid recovery week and some time to just rest, it sounds like Texas Tech offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich is both impressed with how competitive Morton is and also how glad he is that the Red Raider quarterback has cleared the concussion protocol.
Texas Tech offensive coordinator offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich notes how competitive quarterback Behren Morton is
During a press conference on Monday, Leftwich explained that it was good to see the Red Raiders’ starting getting ready for the upcoming trip to face the Houston Cougars.
“He definitely wanted to go back out there, I mean, that’s just kind of who he is,” Leftwich said. “He’s a competitive kid and wants to be out there, wants to be the guy.”
And that’s a good quality for a starting quarterback in the Big 12 to have. Now, you still have to make sure that he’s healthy before you play him, which is what the Red Raiders have done.
“He just got to kind of take it easy last week,” Texas Tech’s OC explained. “Taking some mental reps and just basically focus on recovery all last week.”
That’s encouraging to hear. And it’s even better to hear that Morton has cleared the hurdles he needed to clear.
“He got back out there last night and was full go, cleared all the concussion protocol and all those things,” Leftwich said. “That was good to get him back out there.”
