The veer-and-shoot offense is a ton of fun. Just a ton of fun to watch. And so far, it seems like Texas Tech football fans are really enjoying watching the Red Raiders operate in Mack Leftwich’s particular iteration of that offensive system.
And for good reason!
The Red Raiders have a ton of offensive talent all over the field and for the past 20 years or so, this is a program that has been known for scoring points and moving the ball with ease. But with Leftwich at offensive coordinator, this team seems to be taking things to another level.
The Texas Tech offense ranks among the best in the country and has been explosive in every single game that it's played so far this season, including on the road against a Utah Utes defense that is robust and disciplined and among the best in the country.
And while Texas Tech football fans are still getting used to this particular scheme that Leftwich likes to run, it sounds like the offensive coordinator for the Red Raiders has pretty much installed his offense in Lubbock.
Texas Tech offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich explains that Red Raider fans have seen the ‘base majority’ of his offense
During a press conference on Monday, Leftwich was asked if the Red Raiders were utilizing the entirety of his offense. And while there are likely a few things that we still haven’t witnessed, it sounds like Leftwich has shown what he’s calling “the base majority of it.”
“You know, there’s wrinkles here and there,” Leftwich explained. “But yeah, for the most part, kind of what we put on film is kind of who we are and who the base offense is.”
And if you haven’t watched much of this Texas Tech football team, you’re missing out on an offense that is more than just kind of fun to watch.
“Week to week, we kind of window dress that stuff and have some wrinkles depending upon whatever the defense is doing to try to take advantage of that,” Texas Tech’s offensive coordinator said.
So far, it’s working and it’s working well.
“We’ve always got a few tricks up our sleeve,” Leftwich said.
