While the Big 12 is a conference full of teams that have potential to compete for the conference crown, it seems like plenty of people believe that Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are going to have a very real shot at making a run for the conference championship.
And while college football analyst Joel Klatt doesn’t seem comfortable absolutely and fully guaranteeing that the Texas Tech football team will go out and make it to the 2025 Big 12 championship game, he sure seems to think the Red Raiders have a very real chance.
“All right guys, Texas Tech football, I’m highly encouraged with what Joey McGuire has done over the last couple of years,” Klatt noted.
Along with that encouragement of all that McGuire and Texas Tech have accomplished, Klatt seemed confident that the Red Raiders have the potential to compete for the conference championship. But it won’t be easy.
Joel Klatt sure seems to believe Texas Tech can win the Big 12 in 2025 if the Red Raiders have some lucky breaks
“I think that this is a team that can absolutely compete for the Big 12 title,” Klatt said. “It’s going to be tough and this is the problem in this conference in that it’s so balanced.”
That certainly could be a problem for Texas Tech. With teams like Kansas State and Iowa State both being loaded with experienced players (and then Colorado and Arizona State finding plenty of success in going out and improving rosters in a hurry), the Red Raiders will need to have a few lucky breaks here and there.
“There’s going to be a lot of one-score games, if you win your one-score games, you can win nine, 10, 11 games, win the conference, go to the College Football Playoff,” Klatt explained.
Of course, that is the sort of success that Texas Tech fans would love to see from the Red Raiders this coming season. And also of course, if you don’t win one-score things, it sure seems likely that the Red Raiders will have a rough season.
“If you’re .500 or below in the one-score games, then you’re going to win seven [games],” Klatt said.
Of course, that would not be optimal. But it is possible. So McGuire and the Red Raiders will need to ensure that doesn’t happen.
