Grant McCasland sure seemed proud of Josiah Moseley on Tuesday night. After the young forward got meaningful minutes for the Texas Tech Red Raiders against the Cincinnati Bearcats, it became clear that Texas Tech’s head coach is pretty impressed with Moseley and the way he performed on the court.
But if you ask the head coach of the Red Raiders, McCasland would note that there was a moment off the court that really made a difference here. According to McCasland, the way Moseley approached the rest of his team during a timeout really made an impression on him.
And that’s an exciting thing to hear from the head coach of the Texas Tech men’s basketball team. With the regular season winding down and JT Toppin out for the rest of the season, getting solid contributions from young players is absolutely necessary for Texas Tech.
Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland explains how Josiah Moseley made an impact for the Red Raiders vs Cincinnati
During the Red Raiders’ postgame press conference, McCasland explained that Moseley is talented and just hasn’t had enough reps to be truly thriving.
“He’s got a lot of talent, it’s just we haven’t been able to practice it,” McCasland said in his press conference. “I mean, he’s the one that’s practiced the least out of all those guys and he’s just turning up, man.”
This is a huge moment of development for Moseley. His stat sheet wasn’t bad, but for McCasland, the six points, four rebounds, and three blocks in just 16 minutes of game time certainly wasn’t the most impressive thing about what Moseley accomplished on Tuesday.
“He came out of the game into one of the timeouts talking” McCasland explained. “It was the first time I’d heard him talk to the team out of a time out. I was like ‘now we’re talking.’”
And as for how Texas Tech continues to utilize and develop Moseley? Well, it’s a priority.
“I just think he’s got such a ceiling that’s not even being touched right now in his ability,” McCasland said.
