The Kliff Kingsbury era at Texas Tech (when he was a head coach, not a quarterback for Mike Leach) was defined by a lot of points and more losses than wins. The Red Raiders threw the ball a lot, gained a lot of yards, and still fell short more often than not. But, that didn’t mean there weren’t impressive players in Lubbock at that time.
Take Antoine Wesley, for example.
In 2018, Wesley provided the Texas Tech Red Raiders with the final 1000 yard receiving season with Kingsbury as the head coach. And that 2018 season, though full of losses, really was impressive for Wesley as he thrived in Kingsbury’s offense.
Wesley provided plenty of stability for the Red Raiders in 2018 and he also provided plenty of receiving yards and touchdowns.
Texas Tech football history: Antoine Wesley posted the final 1000 yard receiving season of the Kliff Kingsbury era in 2018
In total, Wesley caught 88 passes for 1410 yards and nine touchdowns. All three of those categories are areas in which Wesley led things for the Red Raiders (which shouldn’t really shock anyone). The offense wasn’t all that great outside of Wesley and his receiving yards.
Through the 12 games that he played, Wesley averaged 117.5 receiving yards per game and had 16 yards per reception. He just consistently showed up for Texas Tech and, as a result, produced one of the most productive receiving seasons in Red Raider history.
Some of that had to do with the truly impressive games he had, like the 261 yards and three touchdowns he got on 13 catches against the Houston Cougars. I mean, we can also take a look at the 12 receptions and 199 yards against the Oklahoma Sooners or the eight catches, 171 yards, and two touchdowns against the Texas Longhorns.
