Game week is here. Along with that, college football is here.
I mean, yes, I know that we just had Week 0, but the Red Raiders weren’t involved in that at all. Now, we get to see some Texas Tech football. It’s happening this week. The offseason is officially over for Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders. Now we get to see some football from one of the most exciting Texas Tech teams in quite some time.
There’s plenty of hype and intrigue surrounding McGuire and the Texas Tech football season. There’s plenty of interest in what this team will be capable of accomplishing because of the way that McGuire and his coaching staff overhauled and drastically improved the roster with one of the best transfer portal classes in the country.
And so, a lot of things have changed for McGuire and the Red Raiders heading into this season. On Monday, during a press conference, Texas Tech’s head coach had a chance to talk about some of the changes that fans might notice this season.
Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire highlights some of the changes the Red Raiders have experienced in the offseason
One of the biggest changes that fans might notice sooner rather than later?
“I think just one will be the size of the team as a whole,” Texas Tech’s head coach explained. “I think we’re as athletic as we’ve ever been, especially since I’ve been here.”
That’s exactly the sort of improvement that Texas Tech football fans have been wanting to see on the recruiting trail and through the Transfer Portal. That’s exactly what folks have been wanting to see happen in Lubbock for a while.
“One thing that we talk about all the time is whenever people watch the game, when they turn on the tape, when they turn on the TV, the ‘oh my gosh’ factor of how hard these guys play,” McGuire said.
I think most, if not all, Red Raider fans would definitely appreciate a bit more of the “oh my gosh” factor being more present more often. That’s safe to say, right?
“We talk about it all the time, a team that truly cares about each other plays for each other,” McGuire stated. “They play at a different level and so I’m expecting our guys to play extremely hard on Saturday.”
I mean, McGuire definitely knows how to get some folks interested in watching what should be a blowout to start the season. I’m absolutely fascinated by the strong quotes that I’m hearing here.
And yes, I know there’s some coachspeak layered in and all throughout this. I don’t particularly care. I’m fascinated to see how one of the most talented Red Raider rosters in quite some time will look this year. And that starts Saturday against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions.
