There’s been a pretty rapid rise for the Texas Tech softball program since Gerry Glasco arrived in Lubbock. In just the second year of his time with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Glasco has helped Tech win its second ever Big 12 regular season championship.
Of course, it’s important to remember that Glasco helped Texas Tech win its first ever Big 12 regular season title just a year ago. Prior to Glasco’s arrival from the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, Texas Tech had never won the Big 12. Now, with a roster loaded with talent and a program moving very clearly in the right direction, Glasco and the Red Raiders have won the conference twice.
A season ago, Glasco managed to go 20-4 in Big 12 play. So far this season, he’s 19-2 when facing Big 12 competition with just one Big 12 series left to be played.

It’s important to understand just how Texas Tech got to this point in the season with just two losses to Big 12 teams. Texas Tech leads the Big 12 in batting average, ERA, home runs, RBI, scoring, strikeout-to-walk ratio, WHIP, and stolen bases.
And when you have a pitching trio that is as talented as Texas Tech’s with NiJaree Canady, Kaitlyn Terry, and Samantha Lincoln, you’re going to win quite a few games.
Now, a Big 12 regular season title is great and something to celebrate, but the Red Raiders are aiming for higher than that. Last year’s team was able to get to Oklahoma City and finished as national runners-up to the Texas Longhorns after making the Women’s College World Series for the first time ever. Texas Tech is aiming to improve upon that mark. We’ll see if they can do it.
