These two teams fascinate me for very different reasons. The Baylor Bears have totally underachieved relative to what I expected out of the folks in Waco this year. I really thought that Baylor, with the offense that the Bears have assembled, would be competing for a spot in the Big 12 championship game this season.
And Arizona! I didn’t expect this sort of season from the Wildcats! They still have a very real shot at getting to nine wins in the regular season and then 10 wins with a bowl game.
Did y’all expect that? I didn’t. I’m so thoroughly impressed with the way the Wildcats are operating right now. I’m not so impressed by Baylor. But the Bears need this game to try to make a bowl. So, it’s worth watching.

Why should Texas Tech fans pay attention to Baylor facing Arizona?
There’s not much about the game that really makes this interesting for Texas Tech, to be completely honest. It’s what’s happening off the field. Right now, it looks like Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears will be seeing a lot of each other for the next few months. In part because of the weird situation around the Baylor athletics director situation, it sounds like Aranda will be sticking around in Waco for a little while longer.
Which, that sucks for Baylor fans, but it’s good for Texas Tech! The Bears won’t be able to enter the coaching carousel and their football program will probably lose at least a little bit of fan support (if not a rather significant amount of fan support) because it really looks like folks aren’t in love with the way that Baylor has underachieved this year.
I’m sure Texas Tech fans are going to appreciate seeing a team that could theoretically mobilize resources to cause problems for the Red Raiders in the Big 12 instead deciding to stick with their current status quo. Baylor fans? They’re probably not going to enjoy that as much.
