Skyler Gill-Howard has played a lot of football throughout his career. Up to this point, the talented Texas Tech Red Raiders defensive lineman has played for a couple different teams and has seen numerous college football stadiums.

And he sure seemed to appreciate the way Texas Tech football fans were at this game. On top of that, Gill-Howard also seemed grateful for this moment in time and being present with the Red Raiders at this time. I mean, the dude sure seems to value intentional focus and what that means for him.

During the postgame press conference, Gill-Howard explained all of that as he got the chance to talk about his pregame speech to his Texas Tech teammates.

Texas Tech’s Skyler Gill-Howard sure seemed to value the Red Raider fans and the chance to play for Texas Tech this season

“I mentioned the crowd, the fans,” Gill-Howard said to media members as he explained the contents and focus of his pregame speech. “I was like, ‘look around, be grateful and be blessed. Because we’re not going to get this moment back’.”

That feels like a pretty healthy perspective about being mindful and intentionally present, no matter where you are and what you’re doing.

“When the clock hits zero, the game’s over,” Gill-Howard said. “We can’t get that game back, but we’ve got more coming.”

That’s also great to see. I appreciate that. There’s no point dwelling on missing an opportunity. Just start looking forward to what’s next and up ahead. And since this game went well for Texas Tech, this is definitely an opportunity to start looking ahead and focusing on what the Red Raiders have ahead of them this coming week.

“We just need to keep everybody grounded and just be grateful in the moment,” Gill-Howard continued. “One day football is going to be over for all of us.”

Man, such healthy perspective all across this quote. These are things that carry over outside of football, for what that’s worth.

“As long as we stay grounded and grateful for what’s in front of us, that’s what I wanted them to understand,” Gill-Howard said.

I, for one, find myself grateful that this guy is representing Texas Tech. He clearly seems to be a leader for the Red Raiders and that is a good thing.
