Even though he’s been dinged up and has missed a couple of games, the fact that Behren Morton and the Texas Tech Red Raiders still have one of the most potent and productive passing attacks in the country is really impressive.

Truly, it’s really impressive stuff.

We’re talking about a top 10 passing attack that Morton and the Red Raiders will be taking with them to face off against the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal round down in Miami.

Up to this point in the season, Texas Tech has demonstrated the ability to throw the ball successfully against just about anyone that the Red Raiders have faced. Now, they haven’t faced a team quite like Oregon. So if they can do it against the Ducks, then we should all be really impressed.

Texas Tech is bringing one of the top 10 passing attacks in the country to face off against the Oregon Ducks in the Orange Bowl

Here’s where the Red Raiders stand when looking at the top passing attacks in the country ahead of the upcoming Orange Bowl against the Oregon Ducks:

  • FAU Owls - 340.2 passing yards per game
  • North Texas Mean Green - 318 passing yards per game
  • Ole Miss Rebels - 312.4 passing yards per game
  • Baylor Bears - 309.6 passing yards per game
  • Tennessee Volunteers - 307.2 passing yards per game
  • USC Trojans - 297.3 passing yards per game
  • TCU Horned Frogs - 292.8 passing yards per game
  • Hawaii Rainbow Warriors - 290.6 passing yards per game
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 289.4 passing yards per game
  • UConn Huskies - 284.4 passing yards per game

Honestly, it’s fascinating to me that the FAU Owls are at the top of this list. Partially because they went 4-8 this season and also because the most recent Texas Tech Red Raider offensive coordinator Zach Kittley is now the head coach there in Boca Raton.

It’s also interesting to me to see a couple of other Big 12 teams on this list ahead of the Red Raiders, though I’m not shocked to see that it’s the Baylor Bears and the TCU Horned Frogs. Both of those teams utilize the Air Raid, so it’s not surprising at all that they’re there.

Oh, and I’m sure Oklahoma State fans are going to be thrilled to see that the North Texas Mean Green are just one spot shy of being at the top of the list here.
