After getting swept up in Salt Lake City, the Texas Tech Red Raiders are among the worst teams in the Big 12 right now. Of the 14 programs that field a baseball team in the conference, Texas Tech sits at No. 12 in a tie.

It doesn’t help that the Red Raiders are riding a 5-game losing streak at the moment that includes Texas Tech getting swept by Utah (who is just also flat out not a great team right now).

Things simply aren’t going right for Tim Tadlock or Texas Tech right now.

Here’s where Texas Tech sits in the Big 12 baseball standings after getting swept in Salt Lake City by the Utah Utes

Right now, Texas Tech is tied with the Arizona Wildcats at 6-12 in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders and Wildcats are better than just one team, the Houston Cougars, who are 4-14 when facing a conference foe this season.

Here’s how things stand right now following Texas Tech’s sweep in Salt Lake City.

  • Kansas Jayhawks (29-11 overall, 14-4 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (27-9 overall, 12-6 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (28-13 overall, 11-7 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (21-15 overall, 11-7 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (24-15 overall, 10-8 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (25-15 overall, 9-9 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (20-15 overall, 9-9 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (22-17 overall, 9-9 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (20-18 overall, 9-9 Big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (27-15 overall, 9-9 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (24-16 overall, 8-10 Big 12)
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (20-19 overall, 6-12 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (15-24 overall, 6-12 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (17-21 overall, 4-14 Big 12)

At this point in the season, barring some sort of miracle, it seems highly unlikely that the Texas Tech Red Raiders will be able to do anything fun this postseason. A team that has been to Omaha under Tim Tadlock’s guidance on multiple occasions is now certainly destined to miss out on the NCAA baseball tournament, which is a massive shame.
