Big 12 fans react as Texas Tech secures spot in Big 12 championship game vs BYU

Folks. For the first time ever in the history of the Texas Tech football program, the Red Raiders will be competing for the rights to call themselves the Big 12 champion. That’s right. We’re going to see Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech football team in Arlington, Texas soon enough as the Red Raiders have locked up their spot in the Big 12 championship game.

Shoutout to the Arizona Wildcats who managed to hand the Arizona State Sun Devils a loss in the Territorial Cup, which helped both the Texas Tech Red Raiders and also the BYU Cougars get to Arlington for this rematch.

And it’s certainly a rematch that you’re going to want to watch.

Texas Tech fans have every right to be thrilled. This is the very first time in the history of this football program that we’re getting to see the Red Raiders compete for the Big 12 championship.

And of course, Arizona Wildcat fans made it clear that they helped the Red Raiders get to this point (which is certainly appreciated, but wasn’t actually totally necessary, all Texas Tech had to do was handle business against West Virginia on Saturday).

But hey, we’ll take it. Let’s enjoy this a bit. Let’s go ahead and start looking at tickets and such.

With this Big 12 championship game, there’s a bit more on the line other than just the conference crown.

The Red Raiders are getting a shot at the College Football Playoff and the chance to compete with hopes of winning a national title. A win over the BYU Cougars in this rematch for the conference championship would certainly move the Red Raiders a little further down the path that they want to be on.
