We’ve got rankings! And folks have feelings! With the way the latest AP Poll top 25 college football rankings look, it’s safe to say that Big 12 fans aren’t going to be thrilled with the way some teams have shuffled around (and leapfrogged) some of the best teams in the conference.
I mean, Texas Tech is 4-0 and just very recently beat a previously No. 16 ranked Utah team on the road and then we got to see the Utes completely vanish from the AP Poll. The Red Raiders, following that win, jumped from No. 17 to No. 12.
And that’s all fine and good, but now we’re seeing Texas Tech sitting outside the Top 10 (and there aren’t any other Big 12 teams that have made it into the Top 10) while there are a few one-loss teams sitting inside the Top 10.
It’s really not that big of a deal just yet (though it could become one later this season if this continues and people still overlook the Big 12), but people have opinions and feelings on the matter. And we’re going to take a look at those.
Big 12 fans react to latest AP Poll Top 25 college football rankings
Some folks are pretty upset about the whole deal with Utah being unranked.
And to be completely honest, I don’t blame them. I think the Utes should probably be in the Top 25. I don’t get how losing to Texas Tech (who should also probably be ranked higher) is that much of a disqualifier for being ranked. People were infatuated with the Utes until they lost to Texas Tech.
Utah should be ranked.

But when you're a Big 12 team and you lose to the the #11 team in the country, you get knocked out of the poll. While other teams can lose 2 games to Top 25 teams and stay in the Top 25 https://t.co/VkN62KCGgX
Really think Utah should be ranked at atleast 25, glad to see Tech getting some kind of respect from the voters!

Utah should be ranked. For some reason losses to B12 teams are twice as consequential as other leagues.

And there are other folks pointing out how the Red Raiders (and maybe also some other teams) deserve to be higher up in the polls!
Tech and Iowa State deserve to be top 10.

Tech should be over Texas

All big 12 teams should be ranked about 5 spots higher.

And then there’s this Arizona State fan who’s just vibing and enjoying the ranking. I can get on board with that.
FORKSSS UPPPPPPP 🔱🔱🔱

All of this will play out as we continue to move on in the season. The Red Raiders (and a few other Big 12 teams) will have plenty of opportunities to keep winning and make a statement. And should that happen, then people will eventually notice. I think. Maybe. Hopefully.
We have a dominant TTU and ISU sitting at 4-0 and 5-0 that are behind a Texas team that is 3-1 whose wins are over 1-3 SJSU, 1-4 UTEP, and 0-4 Sam Houston State.

Good thing we have Penn State (3-1) at #7 too! Big wins over *checks notes* 1-3 Nevada, 2-2 FIU and 2-2 Villanova. Oh… https://t.co/sy9cIyiX8C
It’s not right, but that’s just the way it is at the moment. People are looking down on the Big 12 even though there’s some very real talent in the conference right now. And winning will solve at least some of that.
