Well, Week 5 is off to a fascinating start for the Big 12 thanks to some matchups that were out West. Friday evening, we got to witness two thrilling matchups featuring Big 12 teams that went down to the wire.
It started when the TCU Horned Frogs faced off against the Arizona State Sun Devils in what was Arizona State’s third game in a row against a team from Texas. And for the third week in a row, the Sun Devils secured a win over a team from the Lone Star State.
Which means when Texas Tech faces off against Arizona State in a few weeks, the Red Raiders will be looking to end their winning streak against Texas-based teams. No pressure or anything.
Then, up in Corvallis, Oregon, the Houston Cougars ran into a rather tough test against a winless team as the Oregon State Beavers provided a very real challenge. I mean, this is an Oregon State team that took a 14-0 lead at one point in this game against UH. However, in overtime, Houston secured a win over the Beavers.
And now, in a bye week for Texas Tech, there are going to be a few other interesting games taking place. Here’s what the schedule looks like today:
2025 college football schedule, Week 5: What Big 12 games are on today?
- 11 a.m. - Cincinnati Bearcats at Kansas Jayhawks
- 11 a.m. - UCF Knights at Kansas State Wildcats
- 2:30 p.m. - Baylor Bears at Oklahoma State Cowboys
- 2:30 p.m. - Utah Utes at West Virginia Mountaineers
- 6 p.m. - Arizona Wildcats at No. 14 Iowa State Cyclones
- 9:15 p.m. - No. 25 BYU Cougars at Colorado Buffaloes
There’s a few sneaky good games happening today, but the two games I’m most intrigued by are happening in the evening.
Notably, I’m very interested in finding out more about the two teams involved in that 6 p.m. game. I think we’re going to see how good the Arizona Wildcats are and if Iowa State is indeed a true Big 12 contender once again this season. That game fascinates me because I think we’ll get a chance to find out a good bit more about Arizona and the Cyclones.
And then the 9:15 game. Is BYU indeed one of the best teams in the Big 12? How good are the Buffaloes this season? Will that one be close or lopsided?
Elsewhere in the conference (and earlier in the day), we’re going to see how Kansas State responds to its season and its bowl hopes getting dimmer and dimmer.
