Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are no longer at the very top of the Big 12 standings anymore. Following last weekend’s loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils in Tempe, the Red Raiders now hold a spot in a tie for third in the Big 12 right alongside the aforementioned Arizona State (and also the Houston Cougars).
And that’s not fun!
Well, it’s fun if you like chaotic Big 12 championship races. And that’s what things look like for the conference right now. It might be a bit chaotic this season, especially as we continue to move down the stretch of the regular season.

What Big 12 football games should Texas Tech fans keep an eye on this week?
Texas Tech football fans should absolutely be watching out for a few games this week because there are several teams surrounding the Red Raiders at the top that will be meeting up with one another this weekend. While Texas Tech gets to play the worst team in the conference, there are a few near the top that will be trying to prove themselves this weekend.
Absolutely keep an eye on the No. 11 BYU Cougars as they travel to Ames, Iowa to face off against the Iowa State Cyclones. That is a game that could have a significant impact on the Big 12 championship game attendees if Iowa State plays like it’s capable of at home.
Around the same time that Texas Tech is hosting Oklahoma State, the Baylor Bears will be playing against the No. 21 Cincinnati Bearcats in Nippert Stadium. I’m not sold on Baylor being a complete team, and Cincinnati has been a pretty solid team this season, but I think the Bears’ offense can make that one intriguing.
And hey, the Houston Cougars are about to face the No. 24 Arizona State Sun Devils in Tempe. It’s a tricky place to play, clearly. And while Houston’s offense is, well, underwhelming, the Cougars do have solid defense. And both of those teams are tied with the Red Raiders for a tie at No. 3 in the Big 12 for a reason. They’re good.
