Well, the Kansas State Wildcats are technically one step closer to becoming eligible for a bowl game, but I’m not sure K-State feels all that great about that one. In one of the ugliest games the Big 12 has produced this season, the Kansas State football team escaped a matchup with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, beating the worst team in the conference in a 14-6 game.

And there are just levels of ugly to this one. Kansas State had just 14 first downs in this game while Oklahoma State had 23. The Wildcats had 284 total yards of offense while the Cowboys gained 373. This game just wasn’t impressive at all.

Big 12 standings, Week 12: Kansas State comes out on top of horrendous matchup with the Oklahoma State Cowboys

Here’s what the Big 12 standings now look like following Kansas State’s ugly win over Oklahoma State:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (9-1 overall, 6-1 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (8-1 overall, 5-1 Big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (7-2 overall, 5-1 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (8-2 overall, 5-2 big 12)
  • Utah Utes (7-2 overall, 4-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (6-3 overall, 4-2 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (5-5 overall, 4-3 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (6-3 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (6-3 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (5-4 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (6-4 overall, 3-4 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (5-5 overall, 3-4 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (4-6 overall, 2-5 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (4-5 overall, 1-5 Big 12)
  • Colorado Buffaloes (3-7 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-9 overall, 0-7 Big 12)

Oklahoma State is just absolutely horrible this year. There’s no other way to put it. The last season of the Mike Gundy era of Oklahoma State football has become one of the worst seasons in the history of that program.

And while Kansas State is technically one step closer to bowl eligibility, it’s not like the Wildcats look all that impressive!

The folks in Manhattan are probably going to want some changes within that program to help them move forward sooner rather than later. Those changes absolutely don’t have to do with a head coaching change, that’s quite a bit premature, but this season has certainly been underwhelming for Kansas State and this is just the latest example of how much they’re underachieving.
