Well, the Arizona Wildcats aren’t going to make it to the Big 12 championship game this season, but they’re accomplishing a good bit more than what a lot of folks have given them credit for. Arizona moves to 5-3 in Big 12 play and 8-3 overall after the Wildcats ran right past the Baylor Bears to the tune of 41-17 (which gave Arizona its fourth consecutive win).
And it’s absolutely fascinating because this is a game that Baylor had control of early on. Right after the Baylor leadership announced that they were backing Dave Aranda to continue to be the head coach in Waco, the Bears jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter of this game. Things were set at 17-14 in Baylor’s favor at halftime.
And that’s when things quickly spiraled for Aranda and his team. Arizona managed to outscore the Bears 27-0 in the second half.
Arizona shuts down Baylor in the second half as the Wildcats leap past the Bears in a dominant win
It really is impressive to see just how good Arizona is right now. This is a team that is certainly sure to go bowling and they’ve played at such a high level at times this season. I mean, we’ve got to note how Arizona has come such a way since losing by 25 points to Iowa State. Their only other losses are to the BYU Cougars (in overtime) and the Houston Cougars (by three points).
On their current winning streak, the Wildcats have managed to beat Colorado 52-17, Kansas 24-20, Cincinnati 30-24, and now Baylor 41-17. This team isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but they’ve done a great job down the stretch of this season.
Not only is next week’s matchup between the Wildcats and the Arizona State Sun Devils sure to be an interesting one, but also I’m kind of glad that Texas Tech didn’t get matchup with the Arizona this season.
